Discover a different Britain


The British Museum shows how the Roman occupation of Britain dramatically transformed the culture of the province. Imported goods and settlers from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa created a diverse society and produced a wealth of mosaics, wall paintings, sculptures, glassware and metalwork. 

At the world famous JORVIK Viking Centre, you are standing on the site of one of the most famous discoveries of modern archaeology. Between the years 1976-81 archaeologists revealed the houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking-age city of Jorvik, as it stood nearly 1,000 years ago. 

The Migration Museum explores how the movement of people to and from Britain has shaped who we are as a nation. The Migration Museum provides a comprehensive focus on this important theme that connects us all and shines a light on where we are going. 

The Manchester Jewish Museum first opened in 1984 and holds over 31,000 items in their collection, which documents the story of Jewish migration and settlement in Manchester. The Manchester Jewish Museum is common ground; making connections by showing and sharing universal experiences. 

Since 1981, the Black Cultural Archives has embarked on a journey to collect and preserve materials that redress the historic balance and representation of people of African and Caribbean descent in Britain: celebrating the histories of people and inspiring society as a whole.
